Taeyeon’s F5-G5 quite good now. But I believe that she doesn’t do well when she sings live.

It’s still strained, sadly.

Urgh Taengoo I need you do these D5 liveeeeee
Anyway is her G3 any decent? I still don’t really think she paid attention to her lower register.

It’s not bad, but it’s not good.

Will a Sunny and a Taeyeon vocal analysis come soon :D? So looking forward to it

At the end of the You Think/Lion Heart promotion and maybe just a little longer after that because they might have some performances.

Sunny’s A3 sounds really weak for a vocalist. I think Hyoyeon has a better A3 O.o

Sunny just has a weak lower register, believe me, she definitely isn’t the only vocalist with a weak lower register..believe me she isn’t.

So, what’s her rating? Her C5 sounds supported but not resonant to me, which means her supported range might be somewhere on B4~C5?
LikeLike
errm, that’s like a non-existent supported range. Sunny’s supported range might be around B3/C4 up to B4, and I strongly believe she’s average
LikeLike
her lower register is weak, it’s just that there are others whose are even weaker than her.

I know Yuri isn’t of the main vocalists in the group, but I’m pretty curious of her Bb4’s. They sound pretty ok to me.

They’re quite nasal and weak in support, but they’re not so bad.

OMG I am starting to like Taeyeon’s voice much more! That D5 in Green Light is pure salvage. The girls worked so hard for this! I might like this album better than Mamamoo’s idk…Hwasa’s head voice just makes me have an eargasm

I know this is not related (great work and video tho keep doing more!!) but i wanted to know how did the girls did in this performance

This was asked before, they did well. Some issues with the C#5/D5 part for Jessica, Sunny and Taeyeon at the end of the chorus. Tiffany was a bit huskier than usual, but aside from that nice.

How were Sooyoung’s Bb4? They sound better than Yuri’s!

Both of them have shallow support.

Those G5s are mix?

Yes they’re all mixed.

Hi! I just heard this performance today and was surprised how bad Tiffany, and even Taeyeon sounded at times. What are the notes they hit in the verse at the beginning? They sound really high! Do you think this is just a bad day or because these notes are out of their supported range?
LikeLike
Unlike Sooyoung, Yoona and Hyoyeon who have weaker support and let their voices shake with a wobbly vibrato, the issue with Taeyeon was a sudden transition at 0:20 where she went sharp, but that was about it. This song isn’t high at all, they’re singing D5’s at most, usually just C5’s, all in head voice or falsetto. The notes aren’t out of their supported ranges, Tiffany’s issue was that she could not hear herself well, she was having issues with that and therefore it caused her to be less confident about her line and start to go off in pitch in the beginning, she got better later on except for the shaky Bb4 2:52, the vibrato had issues there too.

if you could quickly compare the vocal ability of Soshi members to western pop stars as best you can that’d be really awesome! It’s just that in another comment section you said something about Tiffany vs Ariana Grande but who do you think each member is similar to vocally? Thank you so much in advance 🙂 🙂
LikeLike
I’m not going to compare the whole soshi vocal line with western pop vocalist..because that’s just messy..but you brought up Ariana and Tiffany. Ariana is better than Tiffany..Ariana is more of an Average to Above Average vocalist..she supports F#3/G3 ~ Bb4/B4 or F3/F#3 ~ Bb4/B4 i forget..but I believe it’s the second one.
LikeLike
The only reason I compared Tiffany and Ariana is because stylistically, Ariana thinks she’s Mariah Carey and Tiffany thinks she’s Ariana Grande, so they kind of have similar styles but vocally they’re not technically that close. It’s very hard to talk about who’s a match for each of them, that’s a game we can’t play, I’m afraid.

Also (Sorry) what do you think are the best performances from the dancers? Like where they’ve sounded the best? Thanks

Sorry, but we really don’t pay attention to the dancers vocally..because they’re dancers, so there really isn’t an answer to this question.

The E5’s in You Think were Tiffany and Seohyun (throughout the song). Not Tiffany and Sooyoung.

You mean the head voice ones? No if you live, almost every member does them.

Isn’t that just the “you’re not” part? I think the other girls hit the same note at a different point later

In this song who do you think it is singing the high harmony in the chorus during “Look at me, look at you”? It’s very high and I was wondering who was hitting it as it’s hard to identify https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CbS3YSRdKs
Thank you 🙂

I am afraid I can’t tell who it is, it could be Taeyeon or Sunny…or even Seohyun. Those were G5’s, up the octave.

Isn’t Sunny’s head voice the best one out of SNSD vocalists? I mean yeah she doesn’t really show consistency with it but seems like she’s the one who has the most ease when hitting head voice in SNSD.

Yes, that is true.

Will you be posting Taeyeon’s vocal analysis after she releases her first solo album? I’m interested in reading that particular analysis.
I’ve read a few comments in the past stating that while Taeyeon is a good singer she often abuses her vocals, what do you think?
LikeLike
Yes yes, that’s why it’s taken a while for the analysis to be posted because of us waiting for her solo debut. I don’t believe Taeyeon “abuses” her vocals, but she takes challenging parts in songs that are too high for her, like “Twinkle”.

This performance (though clearly pre-recorded) shows some good singing from the dance line. I was wondering what you think as well as if it’s their real voices. Particularly Hyoyeon at 0:44 because the held note at the end didn’t sound much like her and sort of sounded like Taeyeon. As much as I would like to think they can just sing that well if they spend time in a studio, Hyoyeon’s part seems little unrealistic.
LikeLike
Ah haha it’s one of my favorite covers by SNSD, I love this song lol Yeah 0:44 wasn’t Hyoyeon, since it was pre recorded, I’m sure Hyoyeon’s part is Taeyeon actually singing, Hyoyeon was just lip synching to it.
LikeLike
it’s Taeyeon’s singing, cause yknow Hyoyeon never sounds like that, really 😀

Would you say the other singers like Yuri and Sooyoung were synching to their own voices though? Even with Sooyoung’s more belt-y note?

Yes I think those were them.

Listening to older SNSD songs, Taeyeon sounds quite different. Deeper voiced or more mature sounding. Stronger in my opinion. Do you think her voice actually changed over time or do they just make her sing higher songs now?
LikeLike
What happened isn’t that she sings higher because Mr Mr peaks at E5 but so does Kissing You, Into The New World peaks at D5, but so does Lion Heart. Taeyeon just has matured overtime and her voice brightened up with the years, as well as her vocal approach used to be less balanced and more chest-dominant in her lower mixed range and now she uses a more balanced to head-dominant approach in her mixed voice, carrying less weight up in her higher range.

Admin !! Can I ask a question ? Have you heard Sunny’s Low note in You Think ? the part “deo bunmyeonghan dap” 🙂 Because when I checked out You Think’s Instrumental she did a very low note LOL, I’m just curious if she improved her lower register hihi, and what note is that 🙂 Thanks and more power !! 🙂
LikeLike
She didn’t sing low..the lowest note after G3 is D4…and D4 for a soprano is not low at all. So whatever she sang is above D4 but still in the 4th octave therefore she did it well.
LikeLike
This makes me annoyed because when I made this video I didn’t notice this note at all haha She’s singing an octave unison below the original melody, similar to Seohyun’s D3… The lowest note she hits…well it goes deo E3 bun B3 myeon A3 ghan G3 dap B3…so her lowest note in this album is E3 …but to answer your question, she was lowering her larynx in this whole session, except for the B3, that had actual support even though I don’t think I’d say the larynx was neutral. The G3 and E3 was pretty unclear tone wise, the A3 is up for debate.

I wouldn’t call Hyoyeon’s singing properly supported even though enough tone is produced.
